Ingredients

The French Toast

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 ½ cups eggnog
  • ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Streusel Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold butter, cut into pieces

For Serving

  • to taste Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with cooking spray and place torn or cubed French bread in the pan.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, mix together eggs, eggnog, sugar, vanilla extract, and nutmeg, then pour over the bread and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  3. 3. In another bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, then cut in butter until the mixture resembles sand. Refrigerate the streusel topping.
  4. 4. Preheat the oven to 350°F, sprinkle the streusel over the French toast, and bake for 45-55 minutes until set and golden brown.
  5. 5. Serve warm with maple syrup if desired.
