Ingredients

The crust

  • 1 pie crust homemade pie crust, baked

The filling

  • ½ cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup butter, softened

The topping

  • cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 2 cups homemade whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar and eggs, and cook over low heat, stirring until the mixture passes the back of spoon test.
  3. Remove from heat and mix in the melted chocolate and vanilla. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  4. Cream the softened butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy, then add the cooled chocolate mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until thick, then add powdered sugar and beat until peaks form.
  6. Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture.
  7. Pour the filling into the baked pie crust and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
  8. Top with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.
