Homemade Luxardo Maraschino Cherries

regular cherries or sour cherries, stems removed and pitted

luxardo liqueur
Instructions
- Combine sugar and vanilla bean caviar in a medium saucepan without heat.
- Rub the vanilla bean with sugar until evenly distributed.
- Turn the heat to medium, add cinnamon stick, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water.
- Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and add cherries, simmering for about 3 minutes until slightly softened.
- Remove from heat and stir in luxardo liqueur.
- Allow the mixture to cool completely.
- If canning, boil jars for about 1 minute, then process in boiling water for at least 3 minutes.
