Ingredients

The chocolate cake

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • cup caster sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream or milk
  • ¾ cup cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • cup chocolate chips (optional)

The cream cheese filling

  • 3.5 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon beaten egg
  • ½ teaspoon corn flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C).
  2. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Whisk the eggs and cream, then mix into the butter mixture.
  4. Fold in the sifted cake flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth.
  5. Soften the cream cheese and beat until smooth, then mix in sugar, egg, and corn flour.
  6. Pour half of the cake batter into a loaf pan and add the cream cheese filling.
  7. Top with the remaining cake batter and smooth the surface.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top and bake for 40 minutes.
  9. Cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a rack.
