Shrimp Fra Diavolo

Ingredients

The pasta

  • ¾ lb spaghetti

The sauce

  • 8 oz marinara sauce
  • 8 pieces pepperoncini
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped basil
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 oz red wine (optional)

The shrimp

  • ¾ lb shrimp, peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions for al dente texture.
  2. In a large sauté pan, heat olive oil and add chopped garlic.
  3. Once the garlic starts to sizzle, add pepperoncini and crushed red pepper flakes.
  4. After about 30 seconds, add shrimp and sauté until they are halfway cooked.
  5. Add red wine (if using), marinara sauce, and half of the chopped basil.
  6. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Mix some of the sauce into the spaghetti and place portions in serving bowls.
  8. Top with shrimp, pepperoncini, additional sauce, and a sprinkle of chopped basil.
  9. Serve with crusty bread and enjoy!
