Ingredients

The greens

  • 3 pounds fresh mustard greens

The aromatics

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • cups chopped white onion
  • 2 cloves garlic

The protein

  • 1 piece smoked turkey leg or wing

The liquid

  • cups chicken broth

The seasoning

  • ½ tablespoon Creole Seasoning

Instructions

  1. Wash the mustard greens thoroughly in water until clean.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat and sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
  3. Deglaze the pot with half of the chicken broth.
  4. Add the greens in batches, allowing them to wilt down.
  5. Stir in the Creole seasoning and add the smoked turkey leg.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to medium.
  7. Cook for 2 hours until the greens are soft and the turkey is tender.
  8. Remove the turkey leg, shred the meat, and return it to the pot before serving.
