Simple Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large shallot, finely diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 28 oz cans whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp sugar (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat and sauté shallots until softened and golden.
  2. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in the crushed San Marzano tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 45 minutes to an hour.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, then stir in fresh basil before serving.
