Classic Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

  • 28 oz whole tomatoes in juice
  • 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, finely minced
  • ¼ cup white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon basil, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Italian parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and chopped onions in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook onions for 3-4 minutes, then add chopped garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes, sea salt, and black pepper, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Stir in chopped basil and Italian parsley, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  5. Serve with pasta and garnish with grated Romano cheese and fresh basil.
