Homemade Marinara Sauce

whole San Marzano tomatoes, coarsely crushed or chopped

Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the tomatoes with their juices, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, fresh basil, and water.
- Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low and cook for 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Remove and discard the basil sprigs.
- Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator.
