Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole

Ingredients

The sauce

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound mild Italian sausage
  • ½ cup onion
  • 2 teaspoons garlic
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • to taste salt and pepper

The cheese layer

  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • cup parmesan cheese
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

For assembly

  • 16 ounces spaghetti
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • as needed cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and coat a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large pan, heat olive oil and cook ground beef and Italian sausage with salt and pepper until browned.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until tender, then add garlic and cook briefly.
  4. Stir in marinara and tomato sauce, simmer until thickened.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta, cream cheese, parmesan, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning until combined.
  6. Toss cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce.
  7. Layer half of the butter in the dish, add half the spaghetti, then spread the cheese mixture on top.
  8. Add the remaining spaghetti, top with the rest of the butter and sprinkle mozzarella cheese.
  9. Cover and bake for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbly and cheese is browned.
  10. Sprinkle with parsley, let stand for a few minutes, then serve.
