Ingredients

The Pasta

  • 10 oz spaghetti pasta

The Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef, turkey, or chicken

The Vegetables

  • ½ cup diced onions
  • ½ cup diced green peppers
  • ½ cup diced red peppers
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

The Sauce

  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon ground oregano
  • 3 leaves fresh basil (chiffonade)
  • ½ - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • salt and pepper to taste

The Cheese

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan Reggiano cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions.
  2. In a large oven-safe pot, cook the ground beef until browned and drain excess fat.
  3. Season the meat with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add onions, green peppers, red peppers, and garlic; sauté until fragrant.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, Italian seasoning, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  6. Taste and adjust spices as necessary.
  7. Add cream cheese and Parmesan, stirring until melted.
  8. Fold in the cooked spaghetti and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  9. Remove the bay leaf and sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella on top.
  10. Broil for 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
