Instructions
- Brown the sausage until all fat is rendered, about 10 minutes on medium-high heat.
- Add the butter and let it melt completely until foamy.
- Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until mixed evenly.
- Add 1 cup of milk, reducing heat to low as the mixture thickens quickly.
- Once thick, add the second cup of milk, stir well, and then add the remaining ½ cup of milk (or heavy cream if desired).
- Stir in the black pepper, adjusting to taste if sensitive.
