Homemade Lasagna

Ingredients

The noodles

  • 12 oz dried lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

The meat sauce

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 cups Easy Marinara Sauce
  • to taste kosher salt and black pepper

The cheese mixture

  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese

For garnish

  • to taste fresh basil or Italian parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the lasagna noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse with cold water.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat, add sausage and ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned.
  4. Add marinara sauce to the meat mixture and stir to combine.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, eggs, heavy cream, lemon juice, 1 cup mozzarella, and ¾ cup Parmesan until smooth.
  6. In a 9x13 baking dish, spread 1½ cups of sauce, layer with noodles, then add 2 cups of sauce and ½ cup mozzarella.
  7. Repeat layering with noodles, ricotta mixture, more noodles, sauce, and remaining cheeses.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly.
  9. Let sit for 15 minutes before serving and garnish with fresh herbs.
