Ingredients

The noodles

  • 10 pieces lasagna noodles

The meat sauce

  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 24-ounce jars tomato pasta sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • to taste salt and pepper

The cheese mixture

  • 1 15-ounce container ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles in salted water until just al dente, then drain.
  3. In a pan, heat olive oil and brown the ground beef, then add the pasta sauce and simmer.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with the egg, salt, and pepper.
  5. Assemble the lasagna in layers: start with sauce, then noodles, ricotta, and cheese, repeating for three layers.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, then remove the foil and bake until cheese is melted, about 15 minutes.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.
