Simple Mulled Wine

Ingredients

The base

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 2 cups raw apple cider

The fruits

  • 2 oranges (1 optional for garnish)
  • 1 apple

The spices

  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2-3 sticks cinnamon
  • 4 whole star anise

The sweetener

  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup

The alcohol

  • ΒΌ cup Heritage distilling Brown Sugar Bourbon

Instructions

  1. Slice one orange and the apple into rounds, discarding end pieces.
  2. Combine all ingredients except optional garnishes in a pot for stovetop or in a slow cooker.
  3. For stovetop, heat until just simmering, then reduce heat and cover to simmer for at least 15 minutes.
  4. For slow cooker, cover and cook on low for 1 hour.
  5. Prepare any additional garnishes while the wine simmers.
  6. Strain the wine into cups and garnish as desired before serving.
