Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 whole orange
  • 3 whole allspice cloves
  • 5 whole cloves
  • ½ whole nutmeg
  • 1-2 whole cardamom seeds
  • 3 whole star anise

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider, dry red wine, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, orange slices and juice, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, crushed cardamom seeds, and star anise in a medium saucepan.
  2. Simmer the mixture over low heat for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  3. Serve the mulled wine warm, optionally garnished with orange peels and cinnamon sticks.
