Ingredients

Tofu and Marinade

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons Tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon liquid smoke
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

To Serve

  • Your favorite amount bread
  • to taste amount Thousand island dressing
  • to taste amount lettuce
  • to taste amount tomatoes
  • to taste amount avocado
  • to taste amount cucumber
  • to taste amount sprouts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C).
  2. Slice the tofu into ¼ inch thick slices.
  3. Mix the Tamari, maple syrup, lime juice, garlic powder, liquid smoke, black pepper, and hot sauce in a bowl.
  4. Coat the tofu slices with the marinade on both sides.
  5. Place the marinated tofu on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
  6. Flip the tofu and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until crispy.
  7. Allow the tofu to cool while preparing the sandwich toppings.
  8. Spread dressing on the slices of bread.
  9. Layer with lettuce, tomato, tofu slices, avocado, cucumber, and sprouts.
  10. Close the sandwich and enjoy!
