Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Instructions
- Heat heavy cream, milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan until sugar dissolves.
- Whisk egg yolks in a bowl, then gradually add some of the hot milk mixture to temper them.
- Combine the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan and cook until it thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve and let it cool to room temperature.
- Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 6 hours.
- Churn the chilled mixture in an ice cream maker until thickened.
- Transfer the ice cream to a chilled container and freeze until firm.
