Ingredients

The chai mixture

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 heaping Tbsp loose leaf black tea
  • 2 Tbsp whole chai spice blend
  • to taste sweetener of choice (cane sugar, maple syrup, etc.)

The creamy addition

  • 1 cup unsweetened dairy-free milk
  • ½ scant cup raw cashews (optional, soaked)

The topping

  • coconut whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Boil water, tea, and spices in a saucepan.
  2. 2. Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes to steep.
  3. 3. Remove from heat and stir in dairy-free milk and sweetener.
  4. 4. Warm the mixture for 2-3 minutes off the heat.
  5. 5. Strain into serving mugs using a fine mesh strainer.
  6. 6. Adjust sweetness and spices to taste.
  7. 7. For creaminess, blend the mixture with soaked cashews until smooth.
  8. 8. Reheat if necessary and serve topped with coconut whipped cream and cinnamon.
