Spicy Basil Beef Salad

Ingredients

The Beef

  • 12 oz top sirloin steak
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

The Dressing

  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh lemongrass
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sambal oelek
  • teaspoon sugar

The Salad

  • cups fresh basil leaves (Thai, Italian, and lemon basil)
  • 1 cup sliced cucumber
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 shallots sliced

Instructions

  1. Heat a nonstick pan over medium-high heat and season the steaks with salt and black pepper.
  2. Cook the steaks to your desired level of tenderness, turning them every few minutes for even cooking.
  3. Transfer the cooked steaks to a plate and let them rest for 8-10 minutes before slicing.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the dressing by mixing all the dressing ingredients together.
  5. Combine the salad ingredients in a large bowl and drizzle ¾ of the dressing over the salad, tossing gently to coat.
  6. Divide the salad into 4 servings and top each plate with the sliced steak, drizzling the remaining dressing over the steak.
