Beef Teriyaki

Ingredients

The beef

  • 8 oz beef flap meat or tenderloin
  • as needed unit oil for pan-frying

The marinade

  • ½ tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon Japanese cooking sake

The teriyaki sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Japanese cooking sake
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with water

The garnishing

  • as needed unit white sesame seeds
  • as needed unit chopped scallions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef into strips against the grain and marinate for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix all ingredients for the teriyaki sauce in a bowl and heat in a saucepan until bubbling.
  3. Add oil to a skillet and pan-fry the beef until slightly charred.
  4. Transfer the beef to a serving dish and pour the teriyaki sauce on top.
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions if desired, and serve immediately with steamed white rice.
