Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup powdered milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½-1 teaspoon salt
  • 3½-3¾ cups all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 2-3 tablespoons raw sugar

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and yeast, letting it sit until dissolved.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine coconut milk, butter, sugar, and salt; microwave until melted.
  3. Whisk in the egg and powdered milk into the melted mixture.
  4. Combine the wet mixture with the yeast mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 to 12 minutes.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the dough, divide it into 12 pieces, and shape them into balls.
  9. Arrange the balls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again.
  10. Preheat the oven and add remaining coconut milk to the pan, brushing the tops with it and sprinkling with sugar.
  11. Bake until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  12. Cool before serving.
