Ingredients

The beef and seasoning

  • 1 lb top sirloin or tenderloin steak
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

The sauce

  • 3 tablespoons real butter
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • ¾ cup diced onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup sour cream

For serving

  • to taste extra wide egg noodles or rice

Instructions

  1. Slice the steak into thin strips against the grain, season with salt and pepper, and set aside.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add mushrooms, onion, and garlic, and sauté until browned.
  3. Remove the mushroom mixture from the pan and set aside.
  4. Increase the heat slightly, melt the remaining butter, and add the beef, sautéing until no longer pink.
  5. While the beef cooks, whisk together the water, bouillon, flour, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  6. Add the sauce mixture to the beef and return the mushroom mixture to the pan, simmering to thicken.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, adjusting seasoning if necessary.
  8. Serve over egg noodles or rice.
