Turmeric Detox Broth Soup

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil (or ghee)
  • 1 unit onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated or finely minced
  • 4–5 cloves garlic, grated or finely minced
  • 1–2 teaspoons turmeric powder (or 2–3 teaspoons fresh turmeric, finely grated)
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard seed (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • ¾ – 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 cups veggie or chicken stock
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne (or more to taste)
  • to taste unit squeeze of lime juice or lemon juice (or 1-2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar)

Soup Additions

  • to taste unit noodles, beans, veggies, whole grains, crispy tofu, shredded chicken, lentils, greens, rice, chickpeas, etc.

Instructions

  1. Sauté onion in olive oil over medium heat for 5 minutes until fragrant and golden.
  2. Add ginger, garlic, and fresh turmeric, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until garlic is fragrant and golden.
  3. Add mustard seeds, cumin, coriander, and optional turmeric powder, and sauté for 1-2 more minutes.
  4. Add water, stock, and salt, then bring to a simmer.
  5. Add vinegar or citrus, taste, and adjust salt, lime, and spice level to your liking.
  6. You can refrigerate or freeze this base for later use.
  7. Add your choice of noodles, beans, or other ingredients, keeping in mind their cooking times.
