Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Prepare stale bread by cutting it into cubes and letting it sit out overnight or baking it for 15 minutes at 300°F.
- Grease a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish with coconut oil.
- In a skillet, heat coconut oil and sauté the diced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for 5-7 minutes until tender.
- In a bowl, combine eggs, milk, melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, then pour over the bread cubes and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to the greased pan and bake uncovered for 50-55 minutes until puffed and browned.
- Serve warm with caramel sauce or whipped cream if desired.
