Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cube the stale French bread into 1-inch cubes and let them dry out for a few hours or bake them for 10-15 minutes.
- Peel and chop the apples into small pieces.
- In a large bowl, toss the bread cubes and chopped apples together, then transfer them to the greased baking dish.
- In the same bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg yolks, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, almond extract, and pumpkin or apple pie seasoning.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread and apples, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
- Let the mixture stand for at least 15 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
- Dot the mixture with chopped butter and bake for 40-50 minutes until the center is set and apples are tender.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes before cutting into pieces and serving with warm Buttermilk Syrup.
