Ingredients

The bread

  • 1 lb loaf French or Italian bread

The garlic butter mixture

  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 4 large cloves garlic, minced
  • a pinch kosher salt

The toppings

  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Cut the bread in half horizontally.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt, and stir until well combined.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the two bread halves.
  5. Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes until slightly golden brown on the edges.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the bread halves with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Turn the oven to broil and place the bread back in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes until the edges toast and the cheese melts, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, cut into thick slices, and serve warm.
