Ingredients

The Bacon

  • 1 pkg. thick cut bacon (16 oz)

The Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (6 oz)
  • 2 tsp vegetable shortening
  • 2 oz white chocolate candy melts (optional)

Optional Toppings

  • to taste chopped pistachios, almonds, pecans, or peanuts
  • to taste orange zest
  • to taste toffee bits
  • to taste sea salt
  • to taste brown sugar
  • to taste red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper
  • to taste toasted coconut
  • to taste sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Arrange bacon in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until crisp.
  3. Remove bacon and place on paper towels to cool, then cut into 2-inch pieces.
  4. Line a baking sheet with wax paper.
  5. Melt chocolate chips and vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  6. Dip bacon pieces in melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off, then place on wax paper.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes until chocolate sets.
  8. Melt white chocolate candy melts and drizzle over the chocolate-covered bacon.
  9. Return to the refrigerator until the white chocolate sets.
  10. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
