Ingredients

The fries

  • 2 ½ - 3 pounds yellow potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper (optional)

For serving

  • optional fresh parsley or cilantro
  • optional fresh garlic
  • optional ketchup
  • optional garlicky guacamole
  • optional jalapeño queso

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the potatoes into small wedges, about ¼ to ½ inch wide, and steam them for approximately 5 minutes until slightly tender.
  3. Transfer the steamed potatoes to the baking sheets and sprinkle with nutritional yeast, chili powder, garlic powder, sea salt, and cayenne pepper if using. Toss gently to coat.
  4. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on the baking sheets, ensuring they are not overlapping.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, then increase the oven temperature to 450°F (232°C). Flip the fries and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
  6. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs and garlic, and with dips like ketchup or guacamole.
