Meatball Pasta Bake

Ingredients

The Meatballs

  • 2 tablespoons Italian bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 pound ground beef (90%/10%)
  • ¼ cup finely shredded Parmesan
  • ¼ each yellow onion or red onion, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon oil

The Sauce and Pasta

  • 1 23-ounce jar marinara sauce
  • 4 ounces crème fraîche
  • 1 pound orecchiette pasta, cooked to al dente

The Cheese

  • cups shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, soak the bread crumbs in milk for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef, Parmesan, onion, garlic, oregano, salt, crushed red pepper, and egg to the bowl and mix until combined.
  4. Scoop out the mixture to form meatballs using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs for about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the meatballs and set aside, then add marinara and crème fraîche to the skillet and heat until warm.
  7. Combine the cooked pasta with the marinara sauce in a large baking dish.
  8. Place the meatballs on top of the pasta and sprinkle with mozzarella.
  9. Bake for 8-12 minutes until the cheese is melted.
