Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and whisk in the flour.
  2. Cook the flour mixture for 1 minute while whisking occasionally.
  3. Add chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, sugar, and salt to the pan and whisk to combine.
  4. Cook for another minute while whisking constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth until smooth, then add the tomato sauce and stir.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
