Jalapeño Cheddar Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

The burgers

  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • ½ cup finely diced onion
  • ¼ cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 medium jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika, sweet or smoked
  • ½ tablespoon juice of lime
  • ½ to 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For serving

  • 6 soft hamburger buns
  • to taste guacamole
  • to taste sliced cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • to taste tomatoes
  • to taste lettuce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high and oil the grates if necessary.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all burger ingredients until well mixed.
  3. Shape the mixture into about 6 burger patties.
  4. Grill the patties for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. Remove from the grill, cover with foil, and let rest for 3-5 minutes before serving.
  6. Serve on buns with guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.
