Ingredients

The burger mixture

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 whole jalapeño, diced
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 pounds 94% lean ground turkey

For serving

  • 6 slices pepper jack cheese (optional)
  • 6 whole hamburger buns
  • to taste jalapeño slices
  • to taste spicy mayo or ranch dressing
  • to taste guacamole
  • to taste tomato
  • to taste lettuce

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the first 11 ingredients in a large bowl, then add the ground turkey and mix well.
  2. Form the mixture into 6 patties, each weighing about 6 ounces.
  3. Refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.
  4. Preheat the grill to high and grease the grates with vegetable oil.
  5. Cook the patties on the grill for 5 minutes with the lid closed, then flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads 165°F (74°C).
  6. If desired, add a slice of cheese on top during the last 30 seconds of cooking.
  7. Serve the burgers on buns with your choice of toppings.
