Ingredients

Turkey Burger Ingredients

  • 1 lb. 85% fat ground turkey
  • ½ medium white onion, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 2 tablespoons green chiles
  • 1 medium green pepper, finely diced
  • ½ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter, diced
  • 6 pieces burger buns

Quick Pickled Onions

  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 large red onion, thinly sliced

Avocado Mash

  • 1 large avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 3 tablespoons canned green chiles
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare quick pickled onions by mixing apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, salt, and sugar in a jar, then adding sliced onion and refrigerating for at least 2 hours.
  2. Preheat the grill to 375ºF.
  3. Mix all turkey burger ingredients (except buns) in a large bowl and form into 6 patties.
  4. Spray tin foil with non-stick spray and place on the grill, then cook the patties for about 6-7 minutes on each side.
  5. Prepare the avocado mash by mashing the avocado and mixing in green chiles, salt, and cilantro.
  6. Once burgers reach an internal temperature of 160ºF, remove from the grill and let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Serve the burgers on buns topped with avocado mash and pickled onions.
