Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches

Ingredients

The filling

  • ½ teaspoon butter
  • ½ medium green pepper, diced
  • ½ medium white onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ pound thinly sliced rare roast beef deli style or shaved ribeye
  • 4 slices provolone cheese

The bread

  • 2 pieces deli sub rolls or pretzel rolls
  • 2 sheets foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat and sauté the diced veggies for 8-10 minutes until soft.
  3. Add salt and pepper to the veggies and stir to coat them.
  4. Push the veggies to the side and add the meat, one slice at a time, to the empty side of the pan.
  5. Sprinkle garlic powder and remaining salt and pepper on the meat, cooking until browned (about 5 minutes).
  6. Mix the meat and veggies together in the pan.
  7. Separate the mixture into two halves and push them to opposite sides of the pan.
  8. Cover each half with two slices of provolone cheese and cook until melted (about 4 minutes).
  9. Slice the deli rolls almost in half and stuff one half with the meat, veggies, and cheese mixture.
  10. Seal the rolls and wrap each tightly in foil.
  11. Bake the foil-wrapped sandwiches for 10 minutes.
  12. Serve immediately while hot.
