Ingredients

The filling

  • 1 lbs 95% lean ground beef, raw
  • 1 large white onion, diced
  • 1 medium or large green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1 cup fat free beef broth
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper

The sandwich

  • 5 light wheat sandwich rolls
  • 5 slices 2% Provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. 1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. 2. Add the diced peppers and onions to the skillet and cook until softened.
  3. 3. Mix in the steak sauce, beef broth, salt, and pepper, then bring to a bubble and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. 4. Preheat the oven to broil and prepare a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  5. 5. Open the sandwich rolls and press the insides of the bottom halves to create more space for the filling.
  6. 6. Scoop about ¾ cup of the meat mixture onto each bottom half and top with a slice of cheese.
  7. 7. Broil the assembled sandwiches for about 1 minute, watching closely to prevent burning.
  8. 8. Cover each bottom half with its toasted top half and serve.
