Ingredients

The pasta

  • 12 ounces dry penne pasta
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil

The chicken

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

The cheese

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese

Miscellaneous

  • as needed cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and coat a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
  2. Boil salted water in a large pot and cook the penne pasta according to package directions.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat, add onion, and cook until softened.
  4. Add chicken, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the pan, cooking until the chicken is cooked through.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce and chopped basil, then combine with the drained pasta in the baking dish.
  6. Top the mixture with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted, then serve.
