Ingredients

The fondue

  • cup half-and-half
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon instant coffee granules or espresso powder
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons liqueur of choice (optional)

Dippers

  • as needed fresh fruit (e.g., strawberries, banana, pineapple)
  • as needed baked treats (e.g., donut holes, pound cake, cookies)
  • as needed salty snacks (e.g., mini pretzels, potato chips)

Instructions

  1. Prepare all dippers by cutting fruit and baked treats into bite-sized pieces and arrange them on a platter.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the half-and-half over medium-high heat until it begins to simmer.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped chocolate, letting it sit for a minute.
  4. Gently stir the chocolate until fully melted and smooth, adding more half-and-half if needed to adjust consistency.
  5. Stir in the espresso powder, vanilla extract, and liqueur, then transfer to a fondue pot.
  6. Serve warm with dippers.
