  • 1 unit paring knife
  • 1 medium bowl of water
  • 1 unit colander or fine-mesh strainer

Instructions

  1. Lay the pomegranate on its side and cut ½ inch from the top to expose the seeds.
  2. Identify the ridges of the pomegranate and cut along them with a paring knife, being careful not to pierce the seeds.
  3. Fill a medium bowl with water and pry the pomegranate apart into sections above the water.
  4. Use your fingers to remove the seeds from the skin and membranes while submerged in water.
  5. Skim off any membranes or skin that float to the surface of the water.
  6. Drain the seeds using a strainer or colander and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
