How to Freeze Pomegranate Seeds

Ingredients

  • 4 units fresh pomegranates

Instructions

  1. Cover the kitchen counter with an old kitchen cloth to protect it from stains.
  2. Roll the pomegranate on the countertop to loosen the seeds.
  3. Cut off the top of the pomegranate with a sharp knife.
  4. Score the fruit down either side and gently rip it in half.
  5. Fill a bowl with cold water and soak the pomegranate halves for 2 minutes.
  6. Whack each half with a wooden spoon to dislodge the seeds.
  7. Scoop out the pith and remove the seeds from the water.
  8. Dry the seeds thoroughly with paper towels.
  9. Line a baking tray with wax paper and place the seeds in a single layer.
  10. Freeze the seeds for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours.
  11. Transfer the seeds to a freezer-friendly bag, removing as much air as possible.
  12. Store the frozen seeds in the freezer for up to 4 months.
