Avocado Chicken Burger

Ingredients

The burgers

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • cup whole wheat Panko bread crumbs
  • 1-2 pieces chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon adobo sauce
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and cut into chunks

The chipotle yogurt sauce

  • ¾ cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons adobo sauce
  • teaspoon kosher salt

For serving

  • 4 pieces whole wheat hamburger buns
  • to taste optional toppings (lettuce, red onion, tomato, salsa, yogurt)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill or grill pan to medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic, breadcrumbs, chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, salt, pepper, and cilantro, then gently fold in the avocado.
  3. Shape the mixture into 4 patties.
  4. Oil the grill and cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side until fully cooked and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, mix the Greek yogurt, adobo sauce, and salt in a small bowl to prepare the chipotle yogurt sauce.
  6. Serve the burgers with the yogurt sauce and any additional toppings.
