Red Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients

The base

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced finely
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 7 cloves garlic, minced

The seasonings

  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper

The tomatoes

  • 2 28 oz cans San Marzano crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup tomato paste

The liquids

  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • ½ cup red wine
  • ¼ cup water

The finishing touches

  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  2. 2. Add diced onion and carrots, cooking until softened.
  3. 3. Add ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until slightly pink.
  4. 4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  5. 5. Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper, then stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
  6. 6. Mix in balsamic vinegar, red wine, water, and parmesan cheese.
  7. 7. Reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for at least 60 minutes, or up to 3 hours for richer flavor.
