Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan with butter and cocoa powder.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
- In another bowl, mix the sour cream, water (or coffee), egg, and vanilla extract.
- Melt the baking chocolate and butter together in the microwave or on the stove.
- Combine the melted chocolate mixture with the dry ingredients and wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth it out.
- Bake for 32-37 minutes until the cake pulls away from the edges and is domed in the center.
- Let the cake cool for 5-10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack.
- Prepare the frosting by creaming together butter and cocoa powder, then gradually mix in powdered sugar and coffee until smooth.
- Once the cake is cool, frost it with the coffee frosting.
