Cauliflower Steak with Herby Avocado Sauce

Ingredients

The Cauliflower Steaks

  • 2 large heads cauliflower
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons Montreal steak seasoning
  • to taste none canola or vegetable oil for grilling

The Avocado Topping

  • 1 cup mixed fresh parsley and cilantro, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 none jalapeño, cored, seeded, and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium ripe avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cauliflower by removing the outer leaves and cutting the bottom stem to create a flat base.
  2. Slice the cauliflower into 1-inch thick steaks and reserve the sides for another use.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil and honey, then brush half of this mixture over the cauliflower steaks and sprinkle with Montreal seasoning.
  4. For the avocado topping, combine parsley, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, pepper, oregano, and olive oil in a bowl. Add diced avocado and stir gently.
  5. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Place the cauliflower steaks on the grill with the seasoned side down, brush with remaining olive oil mixture, and sprinkle with more Montreal seasoning.
  6. Cover the grill and cook for 6-8 minutes until the bottom chars, then flip and cook for another 5-7 minutes until tender.
  7. Remove from the grill and serve hot with the avocado topping.
