Crockpot Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Ingredients

The sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 large carrot, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 3 cups beef broth

The pasta

  • 1 pound dry spaghetti noodles

For topping

  • to taste fresh basil, parsley or oregano, red pepper flakes, and parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook onion, celery, and carrot for 5 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  4. Drain excess fat and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker.
  5. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and sugar; stir to combine.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth; stir well.
  7. Add dry spaghetti and press to ensure it is covered by the liquid.
  8. Cover and cook on high for 1 ½ hours or low for 4 hours.
  9. Stir and add cheese if desired before serving.
