Ingredients

The chicken

  • 2-2½ pounds frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts

The sauce

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1+ teaspoon Asian hot sauce
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 small bunch green onions
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dark sesame oil

For serving

  • tablespoons corn starch
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • to taste reserved chopped green onion tops
  • to taste hot rice
  • to taste sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, ketchup, hot sauce, garlic, white ends of green onions, ginger, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil.
  3. Pour the sauce over the chicken breasts.
  4. Cook on low for 4-6 hours until the chicken shreds easily with a fork.
  5. Transfer the chicken to a serving platter and shred it.
  6. Pour the cooking liquid into a saucepan and heat until it simmers.
  7. Whisk together the cornstarch and water, then add to the simmering liquid to thicken the sauce.
  8. Pour the thickened sauce over the shredded chicken.
  9. Serve the chicken over hot rice and top with green onion tops and sesame seeds.
