Ingredients

The chicken

  • 2 lbs bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • pinch salt
  • pinch pepper

The sauce

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • cup hoisin sauce
  • cup soy sauce
  • cup honey
  • 2 Tbsp hot water
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

For garnish (optional)

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
  • sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet and brown the chicken on both sides.
  3. Transfer the chicken to the slow cooker.
  4. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, hot water, ginger, and garlic.
  5. Pour the sauce over the chicken in the slow cooker.
  6. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 5-6 hours, flipping halfway through.
  7. Serve the chicken over rice, drizzled with sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds and cilantro if desired.
