Ingredients

  • 14-16 ounces medium-firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ tablespoons canola oil
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 12 ounces cabbage leaves
  • 6 ounces shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 unit red bell pepper
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro leaves
  • to taste unit white rice for serving

Instructions

  1. Drain the tofu by placing it between paper towels and weighing it down for 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the tofu for 20-30 minutes until golden.
  3. In a bowl, mix the fish sauce, brown sugar, and black pepper until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add the cabbage, mushrooms, and red bell pepper, cooking until slightly softened.
  6. Pour in the fish sauce mixture and add the tofu, cooking until absorbed.
  7. Top with cilantro and serve over steamed rice.
