Crispy Garlic Pepper Tofu

Ingredients

The Tofu

  • 8 ounces firm tofu

The Seasoning and Coating

  • 2 tablespoons high-heat oil
  • 1/8–1/4 cup cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes
  • ¼ cup chopped scallions
  • optional soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Pat the tofu dry and cut it into cubes.
  2. Heat the oil over medium heat and add salt and pepper directly to the oil.
  3. Dredge the tofu lightly in cornstarch and place it in the hot skillet, searing until golden and crispy.
  4. Make a well in the center of the skillet, add more oil, then add garlic and chili flakes, sautéing until fragrant.
  5. Toss the garlic mixture with the tofu and garnish with scallions. Adjust salt and add soy sauce if desired.
