Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2-3 cracks freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, garlic, ginger, and black pepper in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the sauce is heating, mix cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl.
  4. Once the sauce boils, reduce the heat to a simmer and add the cornstarch mixture.
  5. Stir until the sauce thickens and becomes bubbly, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and use immediately or store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
